Five days in one of the great predator strongholds of Africa.
Five days in one of the great predator strongholds of Africa. The Namiri Plains were closed to tourism for over twenty years specifically to protect their extraordinary Cheetah population, and that legacy shows in every drive. Cheetah hunt in full daylight against golden grass, with clean backgrounds and endless sightlines that make every encounter a photographic masterclass. Lions rest on open ground with no other vehicles in sight. Leopard appears along drainage lines with a frequency that surprises even experienced East Africa travelers.
February is perfectly timed for the wildebeest calving season, one of the most dramatic periods in the entire Serengeti ecosystem. The short-grass plains of the central Serengeti teem with vulnerable newborns, and the predator activity that accompanies this event is extraordinary. Lions, Cheetah, Spotted Hyena, Jackal and Serval all concentrate around the calving herds, and the opportunities for extended, multi-species predator encounters are unmatched anywhere else in Africa at this time of year.
Your guide knows this landscape intimately. Each morning and evening drive is shaped by what is happening in the ecosystem around you — fresh tracks, vultures dropping from the sky, the distant sound of a Hyena that signals a kill somewhere on the plains. There is no checklist here. There is only the Serengeti, the wildlife, and the extraordinary privilege of being in one of Africa's last truly wild places.
