Botswana is one of the most popular safari destinations in Africa. Visitors can explore the country’s diverse environments, including deserts, wetlands, savannahs, and the Okavango Delta, which is home to many wildlife species. Botswana has many well-known landmarks, including the Kalahari Desert, the Okavango Delta, and the Chobe National Park. Botswana is also a destination for birdwatchers, as many species stop over in the country during migration and others live in the national parks and reserves year-round

Track Big 5 in the Okavango Delta

The Big 5—rhino, elephant, lion, leopard, and buffalo—are at the top of every first-time safari-goer’s must-see list in Botswana. In places like Moremi and the Okavango Delta, you’re likely to encounter all of these iconic animals.

the famous Marsh Pride

In Botswana, it’s not just the size of the predators that’s impressive, but also the formidable groups they move in. The lions of the renowned Marsh Pride in Chobe’s Savuti region are some of the largest in Africa. Years of challenging hunts through deep water and dense marshland have shaped them into exceptionally powerful hunters, even capable of taking down elephants.

Water Safaris in the Delta

Traditionally, the Okavango Delta was navigated using mekoro, canoes carved from hollowed-out sausage tree trunks. Today, nearly all lodges use lighter, faster, and more eco-friendly fiberglass canoes. A ride in a mokoro offers one of the most tranquil experiences imaginable: as you glide quietly along, your guide will point out stunning lilies, tiny painted reed frogs, and majestic goliath herons.
