India is a royal pilgrimage of all sorts,
including its wildlife.
It is a well known fact that India is a sensory overload – the plethora of colour, sound, taste and the sheer beauty of this land is worthy of worship. The seventh largest country in the world and with several hundred languages, India is dozens of countries rolled into one. It stands apart from the rest of Asia, marked off by mountains and the sea, which gives the country a distinct geographical entity. Teeming cities, awe-inspiring mountain ranges, sandy beaches, quiet backwaters, parched deserts, tropical jungles, wildlife havens – India is truly rich.
Man and animal living side by side is literally a reality in India. While spotting the tigers is the main draw for safari-goers, India has its own “big five”: the Royal Bengal tiger, Indian elephant, one-horned rhinoceros, Asiatic lion, and Indian leopard. Then, there are the native wild animals, such as the Asiatic wild dogs, snow leopards, sloth bears and a myriad exotic birds. Among the popular parks in India are Ranthambore National Park in the northern state of Rajasthan, Jim Corbett National Park for tiger spotting, Bandhavgarh National Park and Pench National Park in Central India, Bandipur in the south, and Kaziranga in the east.
