FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

About Wilderness Uncut

What is Wilderness Uncut?
Wilderness Uncut is a specialist wildlife and luxury travel company creating bespoke journeys for travellers who want to experience the natural world differently. From India to Africa and beyond, we combine exceptional wildlife experiences with carefully selected camps, expert guides and seamless service.
What makes Wilderness Uncut different?
We don’t believe in off-the-shelf wildlife holidays. Every journey is thoughtfully designed around your interests, travel style, pace and expectations. Our recommendations come from on-the-ground knowledge and relationships built across the destinations we operate in.
Do you offer private and bespoke safaris?
Yes. Private, tailor-made journeys are at the heart of what we do. We can arrange private vehicles, specialist naturalists and guides, carefully selected camps and experiences designed specifically around your requirements.
Do you only arrange wildlife holidays?
Wildlife is our speciality, but a journey doesn’t have to end at the national park. We can combine safaris with culture, history, food, landscapes, beaches and other experiences to create a more complete journey.

Planning Your
Journey

Can you create a completely customized itinerary?
Absolutely. We start by understanding what you want from the journey — your interests, preferred pace, accommodation style, budget and travel dates. We then build the itinerary around you rather than fitting you into a pre-designed package.
How far in advance should I book my safari?
For the best camps, lodges, guides and safari permits, we recommend planning well in advance. This is particularly important for peak wildlife seasons, school holidays and journeys involving limited-inventory camps. We can also advise on the best timing based on your priorities.
How long should a wildlife safari be?
There is no single answer. Some travellers are happy with a few nights focused on one park, while others prefer a longer journey covering several landscapes. We recommend building the itinerary around the quality and variety of experiences rather than simply the number of nights.
Can you combine wildlife with culture or relaxation?
Yes. We often combine wildlife with cultural experiences, heritage stays, food, landscapes or time by the beach. The idea is to create a journey that feels varied and personal rather than simply a sequence of safaris.
Can you plan a trip around a particular animal or wildlife experience?
Yes. If there is a particular species, behaviour or photographic opportunity you want to experience, tell us. We can recommend destinations, seasons, camps and guides that are best suited to your interests.
Do you arrange family safaris?
Yes. Family journeys require a different approach to planning. We consider the children’s ages, safari timings, accommodation, vehicle arrangements and activities when designing the itinerary.
Can you arrange honeymoons and special occasions?
Yes. We can build wildlife journeys around honeymoons, anniversaries, birthdays and other milestones, including special accommodation, private experiences and thoughtful touches along the way.

Safaris &
Wildlife

What is the best time to go on safari?
It depends on the destination and what you want to see. Different seasons offer different wildlife, landscapes and experiences. Rather than recommending one universal “best time”, we’ll help you choose the period that best matches your priorities.
What are the chances of seeing a tiger or leopard?
Wildlife is exactly that — wild. No ethical safari operator can guarantee a sighting. What we can do is select destinations, safari zones, guides and timings that give you the best possible opportunity for meaningful wildlife encounters.
How many safaris should I plan?
More time in the wilderness generally gives you more opportunities to observe wildlife and behaviour. We will recommend the number of drives based on your interests, destination and overall itinerary rather than simply adding safaris for the sake of it.
Are safaris private or shared?
Both options can be arranged, depending on the destination and your preference. For travellers seeking greater flexibility and a more personalised experience, we can arrange private vehicles and guiding.
Can I request a specific naturalist or guide?
Where availability allows, yes. We have relationships with experienced naturalists and guides across our destinations and can make recommendations based on your interests.
Do you cater to wildlife photographers?
Absolutely. Wildlife photography often requires a different style of safari. We can help plan around light, seasons, locations, vehicle arrangements, guide expertise and the amount of time you want to spend in the field.

Africa

Which African countries do you arrange safaris in?
We arrange bespoke journeys across a range of African destinations, including Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Zambia and Uganda, among others.
Can I combine two or more African countries?
Yes. Multi-country safaris can be an excellent way to experience different ecosystems and styles of wildlife viewing. We can design the routing around the experiences you are looking for while keeping travel time and logistics in mind.
How do I choose between East Africa and Southern Africa?
The answer depends on what you want from your safari. Kenya and Tanzania offer iconic landscapes and extraordinary wildlife experiences, while destinations such as Botswana and Zambia offer very different wilderness environments and safari styles. We’ll help you understand the differences before recommending an itinerary.
Can you arrange internal flights and transfers?
Yes. We can coordinate the internal flights, road transfers, private transfers and other logistics required to make the journey as seamless as possible.
Can I combine an African safari with a beach holiday?
Yes. A safari followed by time on the coast or an island can make for a wonderful combination. We can arrange the entire journey rather than treating the safari and beach stay as separate bookings.

Camps &
Accommodation

How do you choose the camps and lodges you recommend?
We look beyond photographs and star ratings. We consider location, wildlife access, guiding, camp philosophy, service, exclusivity, activities and the overall experience. The right camp depends on the traveller — not simply on how luxurious it is.
Do you only work with luxury camps?
Our focus is on exceptional experiences rather than a particular price category. We work with carefully selected camps and lodges across different levels, while maintaining our standards for location, experience and service.
Can I choose a particular camp or lodge?
Of course. If you already have a camp in mind, we can incorporate it into your itinerary where appropriate. If you’re undecided, we’ll recommend properties based on what matters most to you.
What is included in a typical luxury safari camp?
This varies considerably by property, but many safari camps include accommodation, meals, selected drinks, guided activities and certain transfers. We’ll clearly explain what is and isn’t included before you book.

Booking Your
Journey

Is there a fee for itinerary planning?
Our approach depends on the type and complexity of the journey. We’ll explain any applicable planning or consultation fees before we begin work on your itinerary.
How much does a safari cost?
There is no standard price for a bespoke safari. Costs vary according to destination, season, accommodation, number of nights, flights, guiding, vehicle arrangements and experiences. Once we understand what you’re looking for, we can create options that align with your budget.
How much deposit is required to confirm my trip?
Deposit requirements vary depending on the destinations, camps and suppliers involved. We’ll provide a clear payment schedule with your booking documents.
Can I change my itinerary after I've received the proposal?
Of course. The planning process is collaborative. We expect itineraries to evolve as you decide what you like, what you’d like to change and where you’d like to spend more or less time.
Do you recommend travel insurance?
Yes. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering medical expenses, cancellation, interruption, baggage and other relevant risks. For some destinations or bookings, specific insurance requirements may apply.

Before You
Travel

What should I pack for a safari?
Packing depends on the destination, season and type of safari. Generally, comfortable neutral-coloured clothing, a warm layer, sun protection, comfortable shoes and personal essentials are useful. Once your itinerary is confirmed, we’ll provide destination-specific packing guidance.
What camera equipment should I bring?
That depends on your photography style and the destination. If wildlife photography is a priority, we can advise on lenses, camera bodies, support equipment and other practical considerations before your journey.
Will I have Wi-Fi at safari camps?
Many camps offer Wi-Fi, although connectivity can vary considerably, particularly in remote wilderness areas. We recommend viewing this as part of the opportunity to disconnect rather than relying on continuous connectivity.
Will I have mobile phone coverage?
Coverage varies by destination and camp. Remote wilderness areas may have limited or no mobile signal, although camps often have alternative communication facilities for emergencies.
Are safaris suitable for older travellers?
Yes. Safari experiences can be adapted to different levels of mobility and comfort. We can take accessibility, walking requirements, vehicle transfers and accommodation into account when planning your journey.
